Air Purification System Keeps YCIS Beijing Open

From Tuesday, December 8 through Thursday, December 10, the local Beijing government issued its first ever “red alert” for AQI levels due to sustained hazardous levels of air pollution. A number of measures were implemented, including odd-even car control and the shutdown of factories and outdoor construction. As a result, public, private, and international schools alike were closed across the city. However, YCIS Beijing offered regular classes to its students thanks to excellent air quality measures in place in all indoor spaces on campus.

An official statement was issued to media by Co-Principal Noel Thomas explaining the school's decision to stay open:

Thanks to the school’s extensive and effective air purification system and protected classroom spaces, the administration is confident that YCIS Beijing is able to offer students a safe and healthy learning environment despite a red-level pollution warning from the local government.

Some YCIS Beijing parents have chosen to keep their kids home today due to external pollution levels, a decision that the school respects. However, we are regularly monitoring air quality inside classrooms and indoor recreational spaces throughout campus and can confidently report that our air purification systems are doing their job.
